On Thursday, January 9, the “Pantropiko” singer responded by resharing an article from Philstar.com on her social media accounts, urging people to stop spreading misinformation.
“STOP SPREADING FAKE NEWS. PLS LANG,” Maloi firmly stated in her post.
The situation sparked backlash against entertainment reporter Jan Milo Severo, leading to the hashtag “PHILSTAR APOLOGIZE TO MALOI” trending on social media.
In response, Severo explained, “The article clarifies that Maloi and Rico weren’t the only ones in La Union. The video gained attention because Rico and Maloi are prominent figures, so they were highlighted in the headline. The title was framed as a question, and it’s good that Maloi promptly addressed the issue. End of story.”
