Rufa Mae Quinto’s lawyer asserts, ‘My client is a victim,’ after her surrender to the NBI.

Rufa Mae Quinto’s legal team maintains that the actress and comedienne is a victim of unfounded accusations, following her voluntary surrender to the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) on Wednesday, January 8.

Atty. Mary Louise Reyes, Quinto’s legal counsel, revealed that the skincare company linked to the case still owes Quinto payment for endorsing their products.

“My client is a victim because she hasn’t even been paid yet for her endorsement work with the company. This is something we will also pursue after this case. For now, we are taking things step by step,” Reyes stated.

Charges and Bail

Quinto faces 14 counts of violating Section 8 of the Securities Regulation Code, stemming from complaints filed by investors against Dermacare, a skincare company she had promoted. The cases, according to reports, are bailable at ₱126,000 each, with a total bail amount of ₱1.7 million.

Earlier in the day, Quinto and her legal team visited the Pasay Regional Trial Court Branch 111 to process the bail. However, the court had already closed by the time they arrived.

“We were unable to complete the process because the court was already closed. First thing tomorrow morning, we will finalize everything,” Reyes assured.

Health Concerns

After the court visit, Quinto was brought back to the NBI for a medical evaluation after experiencing health issues.

“She wasn’t feeling well. She had been vomiting earlier this morning. It could be jet lag or stress. Even if you know you’re innocent, going through this ordeal can take a toll on you,” Reyes explained.

The arraignment and pre-trial hearing for an urgent motion for reinvestigation filed by Quinto’s camp is scheduled for Thursday, January 9. Reyes expressed confidence in their case and reiterated that Quinto’s involvement was limited to endorsing the company, with no active participation in its internal operations or decisions.

Quinto, known for her bubbly personality, has yet to issue a public statement but has assured fans through her team that she is cooperating fully with the legal process and remains optimistic about clearing her name.
