Filipina Murder in Slovenia: CFO Condemns Tragic Incident and Calls for Justice

The Commission on Filipinos Overseas (CFO) has strongly condemned the tragic death of a 27-year-old Filipina, Marvil Facturan-Kocjančič, who was allegedly murdered by her Slovenian husband, Mitja Kocjančič. The incident occurred on December 29, 2024, during their holiday trip to the resort town of Bled, just days after Christmas.

“As we offer our thoughts and prayers with Marvil’s family, we also stand in solidarity with them, condemning acts of domestic violence and seeking justice for our ‘kababayan,’ and honoring the beautiful life she lived,” the CFO stated on Friday.

In the meantime, the Filipino community in Germany extended their condolences to the victim’s family and called for justice to be served for her tragic passing.

“The case has sparked widespread shock and sorrow, especially among the Filipino community in Slovenia, where Marvil had just begun building a new life,” the group shared in a social media post.

According to Slovenske Novice, Slovenian authorities have initiated an investigation into the incident, which has left the public deeply shocked.

The suspect, who reportedly had a history of mental health issues, was apprehended and placed in a psychiatric facility.

The CFO reaffirmed its commitment to advocating for the rights of Filipinos overseas and encouraged individuals facing domestic violence or any form of abuse to seek help and support.

“Overseas-based Filipinos married to other nationalities or with foreign partners, who experienced any acts of trafficking, domestic violence and abuse, may contact the CFO, 1343 Actionline against Human Trafficking, or the nearest Philippine Embassy or Consulate for assistance,” the agency stated.
